DFWROS was founded with the purpose of aiding refugees in their successful integration into their new society. Recognizing a critical service gap for refugees, we prioritize mentorship as a fundamental need. We firmly believe that for refugees to thrive, they must access both mentorship programs and have their basic survival needs met. Our mission is to connect refugees with mentors and guides, addressing the limitations faced by social workers who may be unable to provide consistent support.

Founded in **2016**, DFW Refugee Outreach Services (DFWROS) is a **501(c)(3) nonprofit organization** dedicated to helping refugee and vulnerable immigrant families rebuild their lives in North Texas.
For us, refugee support is about much more than providing food, clothing, or household items. **True support means walking alongside a family as they learn how to navigate a new country, overcome barriers, develop skills, find stability, and ultimately become self-sufficient.**
Today, DFWROS supports a growing community of **more than 500 families** through hands-on, community-based services designed around the real challenges families face.
What We Do
**🥘 Food Security & Essential Needs**
We provide food assistance through food distributions, emergency groceries, halal meat, Ramadan food boxes, and partnerships with local businesses and community organizations. We also help families access essential household, hygiene, baby, and emergency supplies when available.
**📚 English Language & Education**
Our ESL program helps refugee women develop practical English skills needed for everyday life—from communicating with doctors and teachers to understanding safety information, completing forms, and preparing for employment. We also connect families with educational resources and assist with school enrollment and navigation.
**🧵 Skills Training & Women’s Empowerment**
Through sewing, computer literacy, culinary training, and other skill-building opportunities, women gain confidence and practical skills that can help lead to employment or home-based businesses.
**🤝 Mentorship & Family Support**
Mentorship has been at the heart of DFWROS since the beginning. Our volunteers work directly with families to identify barriers and help them navigate everyday life—from transportation and job applications to school concerns, benefits, appointments, household management, and community resources.
**💼 Employment & Self-Sufficiency**
We assist refugees with job searches, applications, employment preparation, transportation challenges, skills development, and connections to resources that can move families toward financial independence.
**🩺 Healthcare & Wellness Access**
We connect uninsured and underserved families with healthcare resources, free clinics, health fairs, screenings, and community health programs. We also collaborate with healthcare professionals and organizations to bring services and health education directly to our community.
**📋 Benefits & Resource Navigation**
Changes to programs such as SNAP and Medicaid can be especially difficult for families with limited English or digital literacy. DFWROS helps families understand available resources, complete applications, navigate systems, and connect with appropriate agencies and community services.
**🛡️ Crisis & Vulnerable Family Support**
We regularly encounter families facing domestic violence, detention or immigration challenges, homelessness, loss of income, medical emergencies, and other crises. When needs fall outside our scope, we work to connect families with qualified legal, healthcare, social-service, and community partners.
**🌎 Community Integration**
We organize workshops, health programs, educational activities, food distributions, volunteer opportunities, and community events that bring refugees and the broader DFW community together. These connections help reduce isolation and create a sense of belonging.
More Than Assistance — A Path Forward
A newly arrived family may initially need groceries, furniture, transportation, or help completing an application. But their journey does not end there.
They may need someone to teach them English.
Someone to explain a school letter.
Someone to help them apply for a job.
Someone to connect them with healthcare.
Someone to teach them how to use a computer.
Someone to encourage a woman as she learns a skill and begins earning an income.
**That is where DFWROS comes in.**
We believe the most meaningful form of refugee support is not simply giving—it is **empowering**.
Our goal is to help families move from **crisis to stability, from dependence to independence, and from being newcomers to becoming confident members of their communities.**
