Founded in 2011, The Dallas Way has led the effort to gather and preserve the untold and under-told stories of the Rainbow Community of Dallas, through the collection and preservation of historical archives, the capturing of video and audio recordings of personal oral histories of individuals, the collecting and publishing of the written stories of Dallas-area LGBTQ organizations and members of the LGBTQ community, and the public speaking presentations of personal stories as told by individuals from within the LGBTQ community and by the many dedicated allies of our community.
The mission of The Dallas Way is to gather, organize, store, and present the complete LGBTQ history of Dallas, Texas.
The Dallas Way requires generous donations to sustain archival activities to preserve the history of the Dallas area LGBTQ+ community.
For example, this year the organization received a generous donation of $25,000.00 to archive the entire Turtle Creek Chorale programs and records with the University of North Texas Libraries Special Collections.
The Dallas Way believes in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a pathway to seeking historical truth, achieving organizational excellence, developing a thriving internal culture, and ultimately establishing a profound sense of belonging for everyone involved. The Dallas Way supports DEI within and throughout all cultures, national origins, religions, sexual orientations, genders, gender identities, gender expressions, races, ethnicities, ages, abilities, political views, veteran statuses, and more. Likewise, The Dallas Way welcomes and recruits people of color, women, persons with disabilities, people who identify as LGBTQIA, and those at the intersections of these identities to participate actively for and with the organization.
