The Dallas Way is honored to announce The Williams/Longcope Endowment in loving memory of Charles Longcope, Jr, Jim Williams' husband of 46 years. This fund will match 100% of every dollar donated to The Dallas Way through North Texas Giving Day up to $50,000.00.
Charles Longcope Jr, a fourth-generation native Texan, dedicated over thirty-five years to teaching in the Dallas Independent School District. Despite a short battle with gastrointestinal cancer, Charles left a lasting impact on his students with his remarkable ability to remember details about them. His former students described him as the most gentle and forgiving person they had ever met. In addition to his teaching career, Charles served his country as a Texas Air National Guard member. He was also known for his skills as an excellent ballroom dancer and duplicate bridge player.
Charles' remarkable memory underscores the importance of preserving history, as it allows us to honor and remember the stories and contributions of individuals like him for generations to come. Your donation to The Dallas Way on North Texas Giving Day will not only support the LGBTQ community but also help memorialize the legacy of Charles Longcope Jr through the Williams/Longcope Endowment.
