With your support, ALARM provides much-needed help transitioning historical patriarchies to families of mutual respect and peace. The following report from ALARM Kenya is just one example.
In partnership with Rise Up Woman International, ALARM Kenya held a 2-day family enrichment seminar in Kenyawa region, Kajiado East Sub County, Kajiado County. This is part of the Women Leadership Training initiative, a 3-year program begun in 2023, to build the capacity of community leaders to provide godly leadership and pass on the acquired skills and knowledge to others. The November 2024 Seminar was on Marriage Enrichment, and the participants were the women together with their spouses. This was the very first time the participants met for a seminar as a couple and the excitement was very evident, as seen from the interactions throughout the seminar. It was a great time for the leaders of the Maasai Community, a patriarchal society. The venue of the seminar was Fountain of Life Church, Oldonyo Lenkai in Kajiado East. The aim of the training was to strengthen families by discussing various issues affecting families such as Biblical foundations for godly relationships, effective communication within families’ conflict management and resolution and managing family finance. The guiding theme for the 2-day marriage enrichment seminar was “Njooni Tusemezane # ndoa, familia,” which is Swahili for “Come, let us discuss # marriage, family”.
