It's my birthday AND North Texas Giving month!

Did you know that 1 in 8 of your neighbors are likely facing food insecurity? Or that for households headed by single moms, that number is more like 1 in 3?

Did you know that 1 in 4 renters are paying such a high percentage of their income to keep a roof over their head, that they are at imminent risk of homelessness?

Imagine how stressful it must feel to not know how you will meet the basic needs of yourself or your family from week to week, or day to day.

At First Street Mission, our vision includes a community that cares for its members and seeks to prevent poverty and all its daily traumas. That's why for the past two years we have reimagining our services to go beyond just feeding or clothing people (though that is still important!). New efforts like our First Street Outreach team, which walks alongside neighbors experiencing homelessness and helps them get off the streets for good, provide the kind of relationship-based social support that can end homelessness or poverty, one friend at a time.

As we continue to grow our impact, our need for funds also grows. This year for North Texas Giving Day, the Mission won a grant that will match dollar-for-dollar everything we raise, up to $20,000--which would be our biggest NTXGD ever. A real stretch goal!

My personal goal is to raise $1,000 from friends and family to support this effort.
