About Us
At First Street Mission, our volunteers and staff build relationships with neighbors facing food insecurity, housing instability, or homelessness. In addition to addressing social determinants of health like food insecurity, clothing need, social isolation, and financial crisis, we are working to deepen our impact and help end poverty and homelessness, one Mission friend at a time. For example, in summer 2023 FSM added street outreach to neighbors experiencing homelessness--to date helping nearly 50 individuals get off the street for good.

Our Story
First Street Mission has been providing services in central-city Fort Worth for more than 50 years, addressing social determinants of health such as food insecurity and homelessness. That kind of stability in location is rare, and it matters! We hear stories each week from guests who received services from First Street years or even decades ago, and share with us that when a new crisis arose they were relieved to "know where to go."
What began as a grassroots effort of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, expanded to its current footprint in 2000 and formed a board of directors to operate as an integrated auxiliary 501(c)3 in 2006. Since 2019, the number of unique individuals served by First Street Mission has grown by 55%, cementing our status as a vital provider of services to individuals and families experiencing hunger or homelessness, especially those who may avoid the "shelter district" due to various vulnerabilities.
