Why it matters?
People with limited income are experiencing pressures of displacement due to the rise in housing costs in Dallas. A driver of this cost is associated with land and the amount of housing on the ground. We are at a critical time, as the city updates its land use policies, Forward Dallas, to help ensure it is done so with a fair housing lens. Although the plan will not be the one stop shop for solutions, it can help lay the foundation to address displacement pressures as experienced by our most vulnerable populations in Dallas.
Our Plan:
Therefore, this summer, RAYO will be launching a community outreach initiative that will center the voices of the most directly impacted in order to help create more equitable places in Dallas.
Our goal is to complement ForwardDallas’ efforts through accessible and culturally conscious community engagement and urban planning education. Within our discussions, we will prioritize the inclusion of racial justice and displacement education in Dallas’ most vulnerable communities, strengthening residents to actively participate in civic processes, and advancing inclusivity. Through this culturally conscious approach, we aim to help these communities amplify their diverse needs and perspectives.
