North Texas Giving Day is here! And while I will be supporting many nonprofits this year, I wanted to share the one that is nearest and dearest to my heart- Keep Lewisville Beautiful.
KLB is the effort of so many amazing people who come together time and again to make a difference in our corner of the world.
The people I’ve met are generous, helpful, and hopeful agents of change. Doers who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty, and always have a smile on their face (even when we get really really dirty).
My children have grown up with KLB and still get excited about “community helper days”. They have picked up trash, planted trees and flowers, made seed bombs, attended gardening classes, handed out giveaways and coloring books, talked to strangers about how fun it is to volunteer, and more. Volunteering with KLB has taught them many life lessons, from handling disappointment (trash is a bummer) to leadership and confidence in their own abilities. It has taught them that they can make a difference in this world.
I’ll never forget the time Avery, who was maybe 6 at the time, pulled police officers from their Western Days patrol (literally from the street) to come and plant flowers with her, and then she wrapped up the little pot and made them take it with them to plant at home. The confidence and beauty in her wanting to share the planting experience with her heroes walking down the street. And they let her tell them what to do and how to do it, thanked her, and left her with a smile as big as the moon.
It’s no secret that I love working with KLB. I pour my heart and soul into programs and events so that others, too, can feel the joy of helping. I love meeting volunteers and have made lifelong friends through and events and programs. I love the positive difference that KLB makes in our parks, creeks, and public spaces.
I am proud of the work that we do. Together, we have moved mountains of trash, planted hundreds of thousands of wildflowers, and made Lewisville a better place.
I am most proud of the change KLB inspires, the education that goes along with it. I love that my children love it. It’s not just something they have to do because I’m working an event…it’s something they want to be a part of. Something they get excited about. Something that gives them a way to give back to their community and learn along the way.
Please join me in giving to a great organization and help keep Lewisville beautiful!
