In Texas, kitten season never truly ends, it only slows down. 

Have you heard the term, kitten season? Kitten season refers to the spring and summer months when kittens are born.  During these months, the requests to help expecting moms, moms and babies and orphans are constant. In addition rescues are trying to assist shelters with the endless influx of moms and kittens.

When kittens find their way to TPP the best case scenario is they are with mom, the family is healthy and we have a foster with an available space. However many times kittens are snatched by well meaning citizens or orphaned/abandoned, these kittens have greater needs.  We need a bottle feeder and specialized supplies.  Caring for these innocent and vulnerable families can become costly.  

Here are a few of the babies and families we have helped this year.

• Croissant & babies - This sweet mom found her way to a rural shelter just hours before giving birth.  Rural areas tend to have lower spay/neuter rates and fewer resources.  Kitties like Croissant have a hard time receiving help unless rescues from larger areas step up and help them.  Once Croissant came into our care, it was apparent that the babies weren't thriving.  After visiting our vet, it was determined that she wasn't producing enough milk.  She was placed with a foster that found help supplement the babies with bottle feedings.
• Cadence & babies - The sweet mom has a strong spirit and will to survive.  She had been hit by a car and had not received vet care.  She then gave birth.  She was helpless to defend the babies and herself.  She came to TPP and was immediately taken for vet care.  She and her babies are doing well in foster care.
• Hansel & Gretel - This pair were rejected by their mom.  The finder tried everything to get mom to accept the babies, but she was kick them out of the nest.  They came to TPP at just a few days old and were raised by one of our bottle feeders.
• Mike, Boo & Barb - They were hours old when they were snatched by a well meaning citizen and taken to a local shelter.  What most people don't realize is that many shelters don't have the resources to card for bottle babies.  These sweet babies were some of the lucky ones that found help immediately.
• Marlin - Marlin was brought to a local shelter when he was found alone at just a few weeks old.  
• Pesto & babies - Pesto gave birth on a porch in wood shavings during one of our terrible spring storms.  She and her babies were brought to TPP when the babies were just a few days old.  Pesto was young, small and malnourished. Her foster helped her by supplementing the babies with bottle feedings.
• Tony, Oscar & Emma - These 3 were found huddled together in a backyard.  They were around a month old, covered in fleas and had serious URIs. They were given lots of TLC and were nursed back to health.
• Grey & Black Litter - This litter was found huddled against a fence.  They had been on their own for a while.  They were ill and underweight.  Initially they were all in critical condition.  They need round the clock care and lots of TLC.
• Weeds - This cutie was hiding in some weeds and had an unfortunate encounter that lead to the loss of an ear.  

You can see these sweet babies pictures below.  Honestly we could continue the list with other moms and babies.  Trika, found in an alley ready to give birth any day, Yellowstone found on a parking lot ready to give birth any day, Zorina found in a dumpster less than 1 month old, Miracle, the only survivor, following a dog attack.   These are the lucky ones that made it to rescue care so that you can know their stories.
